Quality assurance is one of the main priorities of the University of Medicine, Tirana, integrated into its vision and mission as an institution with a strong impact on society. This goal is achieved through the continuous improvement of teaching and learning processes, scientific research, and innovation, with a focus on preparing qualified and competitive healthcare professionals for both the national and international labor markets.
As the only public higher education institution in the field of health sciences, UMT aims to consolidate itself as an internationally recognized institution for scientific research and innovation, contributing to the continuous improvement of quality of life and healthcare services.
The Internal Quality Assurance System at UMT is structured at both institutional level and basic unit level, and consists of:
- The Internal Quality Assurance Unit (IQAU) at university level;
- The Internal Quality Assurance Units at faculty level (IQAUF).
The Internal Quality Assurance Unit is the policy-making, supervisory, evaluative, approval, and quality assurance body of UMT and its study programmes. The IQAU is a collegial body composed of seven members: four representatives of academic staff from the main units of the university, one representative of the Rectorate of UMT, one student representative from the UMT Student Council, and one external expert. The members of the UMT IQAU are approved by the Academic Senate upon the proposal of the Rector.
In the exercise of its functions, the IQAU is technically supported by the Directorate responsible for quality assurance within the Rectorate of UMT.
Quality assurance processes include the periodic monitoring of: study programmes and teaching and learning processes; scientific research and academic activities; human resources; financial management; infrastructure; public and international relations; as well as social and cultural activities. These processes are implemented in a structured, systematic, and continuous manner, with the aim of strengthening the culture of quality and supporting sustainable institutional development.
In implementation of Law No. 80/2015 “On higher education and scientific research in higher education institutions in the Republic of Albania,” In accordance with the Statute and Regulations of UMT, as well as the objectives of the institution’s strategy, the University of Medicine, Tirana is subject to periodic evaluations within the framework of institutional accreditation and the accreditation of its study programmes.
